border; the highest part of the central
Carpathian Mountains includes the highest peak, Gerlachovka (Gerlach), 2663 m/8737 ft.
The high Tatras of the Slovak Republic form part of the central Carpatians which extend
into Galicia. The mountain scenery with its lakes and forests is typical of much of middle Europe.
